On January 4th, 2023, I started uploading everyday on TikTok, Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter (@regularhoops on all platforms).
I hit Day 100 ✅ on Thursday and wanted to celebrate by sharing…
🤔 Why daily uploads
🎥 Experience with daily content creation
🏆 Top performing Regular Hoops platforms
Why I started uploading daily
Regular Hoops content struggled to reach a scalable audience before uploading daily.
Posting short videos everyday keeps the brand relevant and grows a more consistent following.
If you’re interested in reading my full social media strategy for daily content creation, I share details in an earlier blog called “How I went from 0 to 2,500 Followers in 10 Days.”
My experience with daily content creation
Part I: Starting from Zero
Before publishing daily across multiple platforms, Regular Hoops was only active on Instagram, and many of those IG followers were people I personally knew.
While I’m grateful for the support from friends, I was curious what would happen if Regular Hoops started from zero.
This gave me the freedom to take more risks because expectations were lower.
For example, I do not follow other accounts on TikTok, YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter. My rationale being people should follow Regular Hoops because they love basketball, NOT because they want a “follow back” from a basketball account.
I’m not sure why, but that’s something I’m not comfortable doing on Instagram.
Part II: Quality improvement
One of the most rewarding aspects of daily content creation is seeing how my video editing skills have improved over the last 100 days.
My improved editing has led to more engaging videos. I would have never imagined posting with this quality at the start of the journey.
Part III: Sacrifice
I film, edit, and post every video, which isn’t as time-consuming as you’d expect. If I have a clip I want to post, then it takes roughly 15-30 minutes to edit and publish.
But if I wait until the evening, it usually means I have to miss a social event. To work around that…
I start my mornings by editing and posting a video
Or I’ll edit and post a video during the gap between my classes
Or I’ll edit a batch of videos, so I only need to post in the following days
Part IV: Accountability
Being a content creator and founder can be lonely, so it’s important to have people around you in similar situations.
For me, that person is my friend and ex-roommate Donni. He’s the founder of GodoverGlory (@godoverglory). Although our brands are very different, we brainstorm ideas together and hold each other accountable at every step.
The thumbnail of this post is a perfect example.
I’m going to pause here, but I could write a whole blog about what it’s meant to be building Regular Hoops alongside Donni’s company. We motivate each other to be great.
Which platform is the best performing?
Part I: Where I’m posting + follower count
I post the same video across multiple social media platforms. Here’s the performance of each in terms of total followers.
I started with zero followers on every platform listed below.
TikTok (100 days): 5,731
Facebook (100 days): 373
YouTube (100 days): 342
Snapchat (83 days): 14
(53 days): 12Lemon8 (13 days): 1
I stopped posting on Twitter after Day 53 because the platform is not the greatest for videos. I stick to only posting mic’d up content on Twitter around 1-2x/month.
On the other hand, I added Snapchat and Lemon8 to the daily uploads list because the platforms have seen increases in daily active users (DAUs) and support video-based content.
If you’re not familiar with Lemon8, here’s an article explaining the platform. In short, it’s TikTok’s version of Instagram.
Part II: Some quick observations
TikTok is obviously the best-performing platform. It’s 3.3x larger than the Regular Hoops Instagram page that started in October 2022. And I see a lot of TikTok followers repeatedly liking my content. It’s good to see a community forming because that’s the biggest criticism of TikTok followings.
Facebook saw almost no growth in the first few weeks, but it started to gain traction after one video went viral and got over 1,000 likes. It’s the platform I’m most excited about because there are lots of features I haven’t explored that foster engaged communities.
YouTube is definitely more tailored for long-form content creators. People hyped up YouTube Shorts as the next TikTok, but its users don’t interact with the content in the same way.
Snapchat has seen very little growth. I’m posting on it because it takes zero lift to copy & paste a caption and upload the same video to Snapchat Spotlight. I’m hoping for a situation similar to Facebook.
Closing thoughts
I’m amazed how a video can go viral on one platform but get no engagement on a different one.
Only one video needs to go viral to change your life—so why not maximize your chances of that happening?
Congratulations on reaching the 100 consecutive days of posting! Amazing discipline and commitment💪 can’t wait to see what the next 100 days will look like!
It’s inspiring to see you harvest the fruits of your labor! Keep going Daniel 💪🏾
